CCX®
Next-Generation GCCM for Canal Lining and Large Infrastructure
CCX® is our next-generation GCCM for lining large, uniformly profiled infrastructure, delivering erosion protection and reduced seepage losses. Ideal for large bulk water infrastructure such as irrigation canals, stormwater drainage and hydro-electric flumes, CCX® can also be used for surface protection of earth structures and geomembranes.
Available in 2 variants: CCX-MAT®(CCX-M®) and CCX-UTILITY®(CCX-U®).
About CCX-M®
CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®) has a 0.3mm LLDPE backing to ensure the material has very low permeability. The composite concrete top cover provides a high degree of long-term durability and can accommodate a high level of differential ground movement due to the fibre reinforcement imbedded within its structure. This limits crack propagation whilst retaining low levels of permeability. As a result, CCX-M® is the ideal solution for the lining and remediation of channels and irrigation canals, increasing their operational life and reducing water seepage losses. Jointing of CCX-M® is typically through a combination of screws, adhesive sealant and thermal bonding.
About CCX-U®
CCX-UTILITY® (CCX-U®) is manufactured without an LLDPE geomembrane backing for applications where permeability is not critical. Whilst unsuitable for hydraulic applications such as channels, it may be used to line uniformly profiled slopes, for example where erosion protection is required to counteract wind or rain acting directly on the slope only. CCX-U® can also be used to provide surface protection of geomembranes, providing hard armour protection from impact damage and weathering. CCX-U® can be jointed through a combination of screws and thermal bonding.

User Benefits
Rapid Installation
CCX® is quick to install and can be put into service 24 hours from hydration, maximising installation volumes during valuable shutdown periods.
Reduced Seepage
CCX-M® has an integrated LLDPE backing reducing water seepage losses whilst accommodating differential ground movement.
Composite Solution
CCX® combines the low permeability of a geomembrane with the protection and durability of concrete.
Logistical Footprint
At 14.5–15.5 kg/m², CCX® is over 10x lighter per unit area than conventional concrete, cutting transport, cost and carbon.
Real-World Applications
CCX® is ideal for large-scale infrastructure where water loss prevention and surface protection are essential. It’s commonly used for erosion control, weed suppression and membrane protection. Fast to install and low maintenance, it offers a durable alternative to conventional concrete solutions.

FAQs
CCX® is part of a revolutionary new class of construction materials called Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCMs). It is a flexible, concrete filled geosynthetic which hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, waterproof and lower carbon alternative to conventional concrete. Essentially, it’s Concrete on a Roll®.
CCX® is unrolled into position and secured in place. The material is then hydrated. There is a 30-minute working window before setting begins, and in 24 hours the material hardens to in-service performance specifications.
CCX-M® is slightly stiffer than Concrete Canvas®, making it more suitable for larger more uniform profiles. CCX-M® has different drape characteristics than Concrete Canvas®, making it less suitable for undulating surfaces.
CCX® is manufactured in our UK production plant using bespoke machinery designed by Concrete Canvas Ltd. The process uses a unique patented method of inserting a cementitious material between two geosynthetic layers and stitched together to form a GCCM. For some CCX® product variants (discussed below), a LLDPE backing is applied to the bottom geotextile.
Based on environmental exposure testing, CCX® has a lifespan in excess of 50 years. For advice on specific climates, chemical conditions and applications please contact Concrete Canvas Ltd.
