Mining
Greenside Mine is a former lead mine within the Lake District National Park. It is surrounded by sensitive habitats including Ullswater. With an annual rainfall of over 2500mm per year, we needed to improve surface drainage to prevent the erosion of mining waste and safeguard the environment. With no access to our site by any tracked or wheeled vehicle, we needed something that could be laid by hand but would provide a long-term drainage solution. CC proved to be the ideal product.
Mining
We’ve used CC on a number of installations across Wales… The speed that we can install it and the fact that it can be laid in the rain means we can get in and out of sites quickly and provide our clients with a cost effective concrete solution in conditions and geographies that would be difficult if not impossible to do with conventional options. I think it’s a great product and would have no hesitation in recommending CC being used on similar sites.

As an engineer, I liked the fact that CC was adaptable to changes in channel shape as we had segments of trapezoidal shape that had to transition to a rectangular shape. The drape characteristic allowed the CC to be placed on a pretty rough surface. Finally, it seems that any future damages to the CC will be easily fixed by patching. This should result in very low maintenance costs.

Throughout the design and construction of the Silkstone project Concrete Canvas provided an excellent level of technical and practical advice and support. Everything went as expected during installation of the canvas. The finished product has provided a sound lining system to the refurbished lagoon and reed bed which will greatly improve the ability to maintain and desludge the scheme in future years.
