Slope Protection | Limassol, Cyprus
Preventing Rainwater Runoff from Infiltrating the Slope
Project Overview
In April 2023, Concrete Canvas® CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®) GCCM was used to provide slope protection in Pentakomo, Limassol, Cyprus. The slope – which was located at a waste disposal site – was becoming increasingly unstable and eroding due to rainwater run-off infiltration – putting the slope at risk of slipping. The client needed a solution to reduce the infiltration and prevent erosion of the slope.
Solution
Shotcrete was initially considered for the project. However, the scale and the need for both specialist equipment and labour would have generated increased costs and extend the construction program. CCX-M® was chosen as the preferred solution due the material being both easy and rapid to install, cost effective, but also being a long-term solution – with the material having a typical durability in excess of 50 years.
Design & Installation

Summary
In total 5,000m² of CCX-M® was installed by a team of 5-6 members (with ~100m² installed per hour) and saw the project completed within 9 days instead of the initial 45 days planned for the shotcrete solution. The project was deemed a success with the clients being able to reduce the cost of the project by 50% and completed the project ahead of schedule. The client has already specified CCX-M® for further projects including the protection of new irrigation canals and remediation of existing canals.
