Project Overview

Giant Hogweed plants grew underneath the White Cart Viaduct at Pier 12 beside Glasgow airport in Paisley. To prevent the invasive species from spreading, it was sprayed and cut back regularly. However this method was proving to be both costly and time consuming for Transport Scotland.

Site prior to works commencing, sealant applied 50mm from material edge, sealed and zig-zag screwed joint, material terminated into perimeter anchor trenches

Solution

The consultant specified that an area extending 5m out from Pier 12 should be cleared of all Giant Hogweed plants and lined with CCT3^® to reduce future maintenance requirements and prevent any growth.

CCT3^® Bulk Rolls were specified
Prior to install, the giant hogweed was removed and the site levelled
Transverse layup
Sealed and screwed zigzag joints
Perimeter edges of material were secured within anchor trenches
Hydrated using a 7000 litre bowser

Summary

In total, 320m² of CCT3^® was installed in 2 days with a 5-person installation crew and this included all preparation works on site.

The client was impressed with the speed and ease of installation and satisfied the material will provide long term weed suppression against invasive species which will significantly reduce the amount of future maintenance work required.
