Slope Protection | Koper, Črni Kal, Slovenia
4,950m² of CCX-U® was was used to provide weed and slope protection
Project Overview
In December 2022, 4,950m2 of Concrete Canvas® CCX-UTILITY® GCCM (CCX-U®) was used to protect a slope in Črni Kal, Slovenia. Situated alongside a single track railway, the slope required weed suppression to reduce fire risk
Solution
Alternative solutions such as shotcrete was considered, however, this would have required the line to close for an extended period of time beyond the regular maintenance periods to allow heavy plant machinery onto site and would have been both time consuming and costly for the client.
CCX-U® was chosen as it didn’t require line closure (just regular railway maintenance), eliminating associated disruption for users of the railway.
Design & Installation
- Vegetation, large rocks and debris were removed
- CCX-U® Bulk Rolls specified and deployed from teh railway line for easy deployment
- Vertical layup
- CCX-U® secured to the slope with intermediate fixings as per large structure detailing
- Overlaps jointed using stainless steel screws
- Hydrated twice using a water tank and hose
Summary
4,950m² of CCX-U® was installed in just 13 days by a team of 6 in cold weather conditions. The material was installed only in the regular railway maintenance periods every Monday. The use of CCX-U® allowed the line to stay open, and provided a more ecological solution than the shotcrete alternative, while the speed and ease of installation, together with possibility not to work continuously reduced end costs for the client.
