Channel Lining | Oxagon, Neom, Saudi Arabia
4,200m² of CCX-M® Installed for Erosion Control
Project Overview
In June 2024, Concrete Canvas Ltd’s CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®) GCCM was used to provide erosion control to a new drainage channel located in Oxagon, Neom, Saudi Arabia.
The new drainage channel was designed to divert pumped underground water from an excavation site into the neighbouring Red Sea. However, the condition of the subgrade meant that the channel would be susceptible to erosion due to the fast water flows.
Solution
The client needed a solution that could be installed quickly, minimised excavation works, and ensured cost efficiency without compromising capacity or flow speed. Instead of poured concrete, one solution that they considered was shotcrete. However, the limited access and short timescales meant that the solution was also unsuitable. CCX-M® was suggested as alternative solution as the material can be easily installed in limited access locations, but is also a rapid, low-maintenance and cost-effective solution.
Design & Installation
- CCX-M® Bulk Rolls specified
- Channel excavated and compacted
- Transverse layup
- Intermediate anchoring for large structure detailing
- Perimeter edges secured in anchor trenches
- Hydration completed at night
Summary
The project was a resounding success, with a total of 4,200m² of CCX-M® installed in 15 days, by a team of 6 – installing an average of 3 rolls (280m²) per day.
The clients was extremely pleased with how quickly and easily CCX-M® could be installed in a difficult area and how the project was able to be completed within the agreed timescale and budget. They are now looking to use CCX-M® for future projects.
